Website Redesign — David Lafrance
A complete website remake for contemporary artist David Lafrance, pairing a restrained editorial system with responsive development that keeps the artwork at the centre.
Context
The Brief
This was a complete website remake commissioned directly by contemporary artist David Lafrance. The new site had to bring together his featured work, artist statement, exhibition history, collection, news, and contact information without allowing the interface to compete with the art.
The Direction
I designed and programmed an editorial, image-led portfolio built around generous space, expressive serif typography, quiet green accents, and restrained motion. The system gives paintings and photography the visual priority while keeping the artist's practice easy to explore on desktop and mobile.

Process
Visual Direction
I chose a quiet editorial language that reflects the seriousness of the work: a warm off-white canvas, deep botanical green, high-contrast serif display type, fine rules, and a deliberate amount of negative space. The design avoids decorative competition and lets the colours and textures of the paintings carry each composition.
Content Architecture
The experience is organized around the artist's practice rather than a generic gallery template. A featured-work carousel introduces an important series, the biography sits beside a chronological exhibition list, a horizontal collection provides a quick visual survey, and the news section documents exhibitions and ongoing projects.
Responsive Experience
I adapted the editorial rhythm for smaller screens instead of simply shrinking the desktop composition. Titles, artwork, navigation, controls, and supporting text reflow into a clear vertical sequence while preserving the same typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy.
Design, Development & Launch
I created the design and programmed the complete website using my own development knowledge alongside an AI-assisted workflow in Google Antigravity. Figma supported early visual exploration. The finished responsive site was built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and deployed through Firebase Hosting.
Results
A Complete Artist Portfolio
The live 2026 website gives David Lafrance one coherent place to present his art practice, selected work, exhibitions, collection, news, and contact information. The result is a client-ready portfolio whose interface remains intentionally secondary to the artwork.
