The Problem

The objective was to conceptualize and execute a compelling movie poster for a fictional film that instantly communicated its genre (psychological thriller) without relying on cliché imagery or overused tropes.

The Solution

I developed a moody, high-contrast visual composition utilizing advanced photo manipulation techniques in Photoshop, combined with striking typography in Figma, to create a poster that feels authentically cinematic.

Art Direction & Moodboard

Design Decision: Before touching any software, I researched contemporary thriller posters to establish a visual baseline. I created a moodboard to anchor the project in a specific emotional tone—focusing on isolation, shadows, and cool, desaturated colors.

Photo Manipulation

Process: The core imagery was constructed in Photoshop. I utilized complex masking, adjustment layers (curves, color balance), and atmospheric brushes to blend disparate source images into a single, cohesive cinematic scene.

Typography & Layout

Process: The final composition was assembled in Figma, allowing for precise control over typography. I selected a modern serif font for the title to evoke a sense of tension and prestige, adhering to the established billing block conventions of real film posters.

The Challenge

Challenge: Making the composition look like a unified photograph rather than a collage of different images.

Solution: I heavily utilized localized dodging and burning, alongside a unified color grading LUT applied over the entire composition to seamlessly tie the lighting and shadows together.

The Results

Impact: The final poster successfully captured the intended genre aesthetics.

  • Demonstrated advanced raster graphics manipulation
  • Mastered typographical hierarchy for print media
  • Received top marks for conceptual execution
