Chaos-Média
An award-winning t-shirt design for the Chaos-Média 2023 event, focusing on custom vector illustration and print production.
The Problem
The Chaos-Média event needed a striking, unified visual identity for their official event apparel. The challenge was to create a design that was visually complex enough to be interesting, but technically simple enough to be screen-printed cost-effectively.
The Solution
I developed a custom vector illustration inspired by circuit boards and digital pathways. By restricting the color palette and using bold, continuous lines, the design achieved a high-tech aesthetic that translated perfectly to physical merchandise.
Final Deliverables
- Custom Vector Illustration
- Print-ready Production Files
- Merchandise Mockups
Requirements & Constraints
Design Decision: I first analyzed the strict printing requirements set by the organizers. Knowing the limitations on ink colors and line thickness early on prevented issues during the final production phase.
Ideation & Sketching
Process: I started by sketching abstract forms that resembled digital circuits and data flow. This exploration phase was crucial to finding a visual language that felt both organic and highly technological.
The Challenge
Challenge: Ensuring the illustration remained legible and impactful when printed on fabric, where fine details can easily be lost or blurred.
Solution: I used Illustrator to create clean, scalable vector paths, deliberately thickening the stroke weight and increasing negative space between elements to guarantee a flawless screen print.
The Results
Impact: The design won the school competition and was selected as the official event apparel.
- First place in design competition
- Hundreds of shirts successfully printed and sold
- Mastered print production preparation
